Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Does Dionne Warwick know the way to San Jose?

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that have appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week the Mamas & the Papas remained at the top with "California Dreamin'", which received 31 votes out of the 164 cast. And this week they will be challenged by the Beatles, Sister Sledge and Dionne Warwick.

1) "California Dreamin'"/The Mamas & the Papas (Last Week #1, Week 8) - 17 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1966

2) "Smooth Operator"/Sade (W2) - #6 the week of June 1, 1985

3) "Here Comes the Rain Again"/Eurythmics (LW #2, W10) - 20 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1984

4) "Always on My Mind"/Pet Shop Boys (W2) - #6 the week of May 28, 1988

5) "The Boxer"/Simon & Garfunkel (W2) - #12 the week of May 31, 1969

6) "I'll Never Find Another You"/The Seekers (DEBUT) - #8 the week of May 29, 1965

7) "Do You Know the Way to San Jose"/Dionne Warwick (DEBUT) - #10 the week of June 1, 1968

8) "Hair"/The Cowsills (DEBUT) - #5 the week of May 31, 1969

9) "Let It Be"/The Beatles (DEBUT) - #10 the week of May 30, 1970

10) "We Are Family"/Sister Sledge (DEBUT) - #4 the week of June 2, 1979

So... Karen & Richard have "fallen out of favor" yet once again, eh? How sad.

So, with that little development, I am forced to change my winning team lineup, again. And this one is remarkably different (for me, at least). This group is easily the MOST recent selection I've ever made. Compared to The Mamas and The Papas, Sister Sledge and Pet Shop Boys are both "current" (so to speak). =)

There are still a few Carpenters songs that I haven't yet featured, Lance, so they will be showing up again in the future.
