Remembering Bonnie Franklin 1944 - 2013
Actress Bonnie Franklin, who died earlier today at age 69 from pancreatic cancer, played one of TV's grooviest moms, Ann Romano, on the 1975-84 CBS sitcom, One Day at a Time. The role earned her an Emmy nomination in 1982 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the 1970 Broadway musical, Applause. In 2011, Franklin was reunited with her One Day at a Time daughter, Valerie Bertinelli, on the TV Land sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, and last August - in her final television appearance - she played a streetwise nun on the daytime soap, The Young and the Restless.
Below you can enjoy Franklin's performance of "Applause" on the 24th Annual Tony Awards in 1970, the opening credits of One Day at a Time, and the sitcom's 2005 reunion special.
