Remembering Gary Collins 1938 - 2012
Actor Gary Collins, who died Saturday at age 74, starred in four television series - The Wackiest Ship in the Army (1965-66), Iron Horse (1966-68), The Sixth Sense (1972) and Born Free (1974) with Diana Muldaur (in the above pic). He also appeared in the films, Angel in My Pocket (1969), Airport (1970) and Getting Away from It All (1972) - one of my favorite TV movies with Larry Hagman and Barbara Feldon - as well as the 1981 TV miniseries of Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls. Collins was nominated six times for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host for the 1980-88 syndicated series, Hour Magazine (he won the award in 1984) - and he was the host of the Miss America Pageant from 1982 to 1990. Collins was married to actress and former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley for 45 years.
