It's been a year since we said goodbye to Erica Kane and Pine Valley, so today I thought I would continue my tribute to All My Children, revisiting 140 of the daytime soap's most memorable moments. Click here for the first 76 moments, and below you can check out the next 22 in chronological order:
77) Natalie Dillon's Christmas Miracle (December 1992)
After being blinded in a house fire, Natalie Dillon miraculously regained her sight on Christmas Eve.
78) Tad Martin Returns from the Dead (December 1992)
After a two-year absence, an amnesiac Tad returned as "Ted Orsini", the son of Napa Valley vineyard owner Nola Orsini (played by the wonderful Barbara Rush). They had business dealings with Dimitri Marick, which brought Tad back to Pine Valley. After regaining his memory, he and Dixie had an emotional reunion on March 4, 1993. But then Tad learned that he was the father of Brooke English's son Jamie and that Dixie was now married to Brian Bodine. And although his heart still belonged to Dixie, he married Brooke on May 28, 1993.
79) Kendall Hart's First Appearance (February 24, 1993)
Kendall (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), a mysterious teenage runaway, arrived on Erica Kane's doorstep, claiming to have idolized her all her life. Erica quickly hired the young girl as her personal assistant, unaware that she was her long-lost illegitimate daughter!
80) Erica Kane Learns The Shocking Truth (May 10, 1993)
Kendall finally revealed the truth to Erica, who then told the girl that her birth was the result of a rape. When Erica was only 14, she was raped by Richard Fields, an actor friend of her father's, and became pregnant. Her mother Mona had then given the baby up for adoption, while Erica blocked the traumatizing event in her mind.
81) Erica Kane's Ninth Wedding Day (June 22, 1993)
Erica married Dimitri Marick after he divorced his wife Angelique. However, their wedded bliss didn't last long due to her daughter Kendall, who was determined to destroy her mother's life. After Kendall lied that Dimitri had raped her, Erica stabbed him in the chest with a letter opener and was put on trial for attempted murder - but she was set free once the girl finally told the truth.
82) The Death of Natalie Dillon (June 1993)
On their way to Erica and Dimitri's wedding, Natalie and Adam Chandler were in a car accident, and she suffered irreversible brain damage. Her husband Trevor was then forced to make the heart-wrenching decision to turn off her life support system.
83) Maria Santos and Edmund Grey's Wedding Day (March 11, 1994)
Neurosurgeon Maria married Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Edmund (Dimitri Marick's half-brother).
84) Dixie and Tad's Second Wedding Day (May 16, 1994)
After Tad and Brooke both realized that he still loved Dixie, they divorced, allowing him to remarry his true love in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Cortlandt Manor.
85) Tornado! (July 1994)
A twister hit Pine Valley, destroying AMC's oldest set - the Martin living room - and seriously injuring Tad Martin, who had an out-of-body experience. As he hovered between life and death, Tad met up with his deceased friends and relatives, including his sister Jenny, Nola Orsini, Jesse Hubbard and his father Ray Gardner.
86) The Death of Mona Kane (August 1994)
After actress Frances Heflin died on June 1, 1994, her beloved character Mona was written out two months later when Erica discovered that her mother had died peacefully in her sleep. Mona's devastated daughter later threw herself on top of her coffin during the funeral.
87) Janet Green and Trevor Dillon's Wedding Day (December 1994)
Trevor's psychotic sister-in-law Janet was released from a prison mental hospital after she agreed to undergo experimental plastic surgery (which gave her the brand new face of actress Robin Mattson). She then returned to Pine Valley in April 1994 as "Jane Cox" and wormed her way back into the lives of Trevor and their daughter Amanda. But on Janet and Trevor's wedding day, the Dillons' dog Harold exposed her true identity at the altar.
88) Erica Kane's 10th Wedding Day (New Year's Eve 1994)
Erica remarried Dimitri Marick in a beautiful chapel on the grounds of his estate, Wildwind.
89) Verla Grubbs Returns (January 1995)
To help celebrate AMC’s 25th anniversary, Carol Burnett returned to Pine Valley as Verla Grubbs - and when Phoebe Wallingford suspected that her husband Langley was having an affair with her, he was finally forced to reveal that Verla was his daughter. Verla also introduced everyone to her young fiancé Rex (played by sexy Diet Coke hunk Lucky Vanous).
90) Michael Delaney Comes Out of the Closet (December 20, 1995)
Michael first arrived in Pine Valley in April 1995 just before his sister Laurel Banning married Trevor Dillon. The following fall - after he began teaching history at the local high school - Michael revealed to his friend Dixie Martin that he was gay. He soon came out to his students, which led to an appearance on Tad Martin and Liza Colby's popular talk show, The Cutting Edge, in February 1996. Jason Sheffield, who believed that Michael had "made" one of his students - Jason's younger brother Kevin - gay, attempted to kill him during the taping, but instead he accidentally shot and fatally wounded Laurel.
91) Erica Kane's Valley of the Dolls (January 19, 1996)
In 1995, Erica fell off of scaffolding during a fashion show, which led to her becoming addicted to prescription painkillers. Her marriage to Dimitri fell apart, and during a televised awards ceremony honoring her as the Media Woman of the Year, she gave a memorable speech while high on pills. Her friend Myrtle then helped her check into rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic.
92) Liza Colby and Adam Chandler's Wedding Day (December 20, 1996)
These two crazy kids came up with a scheme to make the objects of their affections - Tad Martin and Brooke English - jealous by faking a courtship. They hoped either Tad or Brooke would try to stop their wedding, but instead the couple ended up becoming man and wife after all. And eventually they fell in love.
93) Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos' First Wedding Day (May 23, 1997)
Hayley met handsome waiter Mateo in 1995, and they were married two years later in her hospital room after she was drugged and held prisoner in a cave by Mateo's friend Tanner. Hayley and Mateo's real-life counterparts, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, eloped in Las Vegas in 1996.
Erica Kane's 12-year-old daughter Bianca was first diagnosed with anorexia in October 1997, but her eating disorder reached a critical stage in 1998 when she fainted and had to be hospitalized with a feeding tube. She then went to a rehabilitation center to recover. This memorable storyline helped actress Susan Lucci finally win a Daytime Emmy Award in 1999 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
95) Gillian Andrassy and Ryan Lavery's Wedding Day (April 8, 1998)
Hunky con man Ryan Lavery first appeared in Pine Valley in January 1998, and he was soon hired by WRCW station manager Liza Colby. She later threatened to send him to jail for one of his shady schemes unless he used his sexy charms to lure a gold-digging Gillian Andrassy away from her wealthy nephew, Scott Chandler (Stuart Chandler's adopted son). Ryan interrupted Gillian and Scott's wedding and - pretending to be rich himself - persuaded her to marry him instead. Their marriage later ended in divorce after she had a one-night stand with Dr. David Hayward.
After Erica Kane's second marriage to Dimitri ended in 1997, she reunited with Jackson Montgomery, and they soon became engaged. But then Erica was shocked when Mike Roy returned to Pine Valley 13 years after he died in her arms. He had become a secret agent for the government and faked his own death. Mike agreed to leave town if Erica spent one last night with him, and - although she was now in love with Jackson - she gave him his wish. Of course, Jackson found out and ended their engagement.
97) Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos' Second Wedding Day (June 16, 2000)
Hayley and Mateo were married once again after it was revealed that his first wife, Raquel, had never filed their annulment papers years ago. And in December 2002, the happy couple moved to California with their young son, Enzo.
98) Pine Valley's Wild Party (November 2000)
The devious Dr. David Hayward first arrived in Pine Valley in November 1997, and a few years later in 2000, he fell in love with his married assistant Dixie Martin. He then came up with a scheme to give Dixie's husband Tad a libido-enhancing drug he created called Libidozone (think Viagra), which hopefully would make him cheat on his wife. But this plan got out of control when David accidentally spiked the punch bowl at Ryan Lavery's party aboard a yacht, drugging all the guests. However, he did succeed in breaking up Dixie's marriage.
