Remembering film director Tony Scott and singer Scott McKenzie

One of the last drive-in movies I saw was director Tony Scott's 1986 hit, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis (it was a double feature with Whoopi Goldberg's Jumpin' Jack Flash). He also directed many other films, including Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), Days of Thunder (1990), True Romance (1993) and my personal favorite, The Hunger, a 1983 vampire horror flick starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon. Scott, who died on Sunday at age 68, was the younger brother of film director Ridley Scott.

Singer Scott McKenzie, who died on Saturday at age 73, was best known for his 1967 hit song, "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)", written by his friend, John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.
