Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: What's New Pussycat?

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week Donna Summer claimed the top spot with "Last Dance", which received 23 votes out of the 121 cast. ABBA, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna tied for fourth place, allowing them all to remain on the list. And this week they will be challenged by Tom Jones and his 1965 hit, "What's New Pussycat?"

1) "Last Dance"/Donna Summer (Week 2) - #4 the week of August 5, 1978

2) "Downtown"/Petula Clark (LW #5, W29) - 15 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1964-65

3) "Band of Gold"/Freda Payne (W2) - #4 the week of August 1, 1970

4) "Take a Chance on Me"/ABBA (LW #1, W4) - #24 the week of August 5, 1978

4) "Time After Time"/Cyndi Lauper (LW #2, W9) - 20 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1984

4) "Express Yourself"/Madonna (LW #3, W3) - #11 the week of August 5, 1989

7) "Everybody Loves Somebody"/Dean Martin (DEBUT) - #4 the week of August 1, 1964

8) "What's New Pussycat?"/Tom Jones (DEBUT) - #3 the week of July 31, 1965

9) "She Works Hard for the Money"/Donna Summer (DEBUT) - #3 the week of August 6, 1983

10) "I Kissed a Girl"/Katy Perry (DEBUT) - #1 the week of August 2, 2008
