Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Madonna Expresses Herself
Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.
Last week Petula Clark reclaimed the top spot once again with "Downtown", which received 29 votes out of the 190 cast. And this week she will be challenged by James Taylor, the Carpenters and Madonna.
1) "Downtown"/Petula Clark (Last Week #2, Week 27) - 15 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1964-65
2) "Take a Chance on Me"/ABBA (W2) - #9 the week of July 22, 1978
3) "Rainy Days and Mondays"/Carpenters (LW #3, W4) - #7 the week of July 17, 1971
4) "Time After Time"/Cyndi Lauper (LW #1, W7) - #27 the week of July 21, 1984
5) "The Rose"/Bette Midler (W2) - #8 the week of July 19, 1980
6) "Good Morning Starshine"/Oliver (DEBUT) - #3 the week of July 19, 1969
7) "You've Got a Friend"/James Taylor (DEBUT) - #3 the week of July 17, 1971
8) "Yesterday Once More"/Carpenters (DEBUT) - #3 the week of July 21, 1973
9) "I'm Not in Love"/10cc (DEBUT) - #3 the week of July 19, 1975
10) "Express Yourself"/Madonna (DEBUT) - #2 the week of July 22, 1989

Oooo... this week was a challenge. Because I HAD to vote for Karen & Richard (TWICE, please!), I was forced to drop Miss. Clark from the list. My third vote was for ABBA (of course).
Well, if Ms. Clark's "Downtown" drops out of the Top 10 next week, we will know whose fault it is - won't we, Lance? :)
