Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: "Rainy Days and Mondays" always get the Carpenters down

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Cyndi Lauper and Madonna tied for the top spot last week with their songs, "Time After Time" and "Vogue", which both received 25 votes out of the 154 cast. And this week they will be challenged by Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen and the Carpenters.

1) "Time After Time"/Cyndi Lauper (Last Week #1, Week 4) - #7 the week of June 30, 1984

1) "Vogue"/Madonna (LW #4, W7) - #14 the week of June 30, 1990

3) "Downtown"/Petula Clark (LW #2, W24) - 15 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1964-65

4) "I Will Survive"/Gloria Gaynor (LW #3, W17) - 27 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1978-79

5) "It's Too Late"/Carole King (W2) - #1 the week of June 26, 1971

6) "Rainy Days and Mondays"/Carpenters (DEBUT) - #2 the week of June 26, 1971

7) "Song Sung Blue"/Neil Diamond (DEBUT) - #1 the week of July 1, 1972

8) "Dancing in the Dark"/Bruce Springsteen (DEBUT) - #2 the week of June 30, 1984

9) "I Wanna Dance with Somebody"/Whitney Houston (DEBUT) - #1 the week of June 27, 1987

10) "Good Thing"/Fine Young Cannibals (DEBUT) - #2 the week of July 1, 1989

I think it's a very good week as well - and I'm happy to feature Karen & Richard again on the Top 10 (hope they stick around awhile).
