Remembering Richard Dawson 1932 - 2012

Richard Dawson, who died Saturday at age 79, had an interesting career as an actor, comedian and game show host/panelist. He was a regular on the TV series, Hogan's Heroes (1965-71), Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In (1971-73) and The New Dick Van Dyke Show (1973-74) - with Chita Rivera as his wife - and he appeared in the films, Munster, Go Home! (1966) and The Running Man (1987). However, Dawson will always be best remembered for his game show gigs - as a panelist on Match Game (1973-78) and as the original host of Family Feud (1976-85, 1994-95), for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host in 1978. Below are some videos that I've selected to celebrate his life.

A 1968 episode of The Dating Game with actor Bill Bixby.

A 1972 episode of I've Got a Secret with singer Cass Elliot.

An episode of Match Game '77, in which Dawson and Fannie Flagg impersonate Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly.

Dawson hosts the Dallas vs. Eight Is Enough All-Star Family Feud Special.

Dawson appears on Sesame Street as the host of Family Food.

Dawson's emotional unaired speech from his last Family Feud episode in 1985.

Two excerpts from an interview for the Archive of American Television that was taped on December 1, 2010, in which Dawson discusses Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In and Family Feud.
