Remembering Jonathan Frid 1924 - 2012

I thought vampires were supposed to "live" forever. Jonathan Frid, who died on Friday the 13th (of April) at age 87, was best known for his role as Barnabas Collins on the 1966-71 gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. He made his first appearance as the conflicted vampire on April 18, 1967, and soon became a pop culture icon. The actor later starred in the 1970 feature film, House of Dark Shadows, and he has a cameo in director Tim Burton's upcoming remake of Dark Shadows. Below you can enjoy a few Barnabas moments as well as some other appearances by Frid.

Barnabas arrives at Collinwood in Episode 211.

Dr. Julia Hoffman tells Barnabas that she knows he is a vampire in Episode 291.

Frid's appearance on The Merv Griffin show on March 27, 1969.

Frid's appearance on the 1969 ABC game show, The Generation Gap.

Here is another interview with Frid.
