Remembering Dick Clark 1929 - 2012

I grew up watching "America's Oldest Teenager", Dick Clark, who died earlier today at age 82. He was the host of such TV shows as American Bandstand (1956-89), five versions of the popular 1973-88 game show, Pyramid, and, of course, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which began in 1972 on ABC. Below are some videos that I've selected to celebrate his long career.

Clark is the guest of honor on the TV series, This Is Your Life, on June 24, 1959, featuring Frankie Avalon, Andy Williams, Fabian and Connie Francis.

His appearance on the TV series, Batman, on September 7, 1966.

Here are a few of his many American Bandstand interviews: Neil Diamond (1966), ABBA (1975), Captain and Tennille (1975), John Travolta (1976), Village People (1977), Donna Summer (1978) and Cher (1982).

Clark's appearance on The New Dating Game in 1973.

A clip from The $20,000 Pyramid on December 15, 1978, with David Letterman and Anita Gillette.

Here is an excerpt from a 1999 interview with Clark for the Archive of American Television, in which he discusses the genesis of New Year's Rockin' Eve. I've also included a 1986 promo for New Year's Rockin' Eve 1987.

And, finally, here is Clark's farewell salute and the closing credits to an American Bandstand episode from June 23, 1984 (a few fun commercials are also included).
