Top 10 Tuesday of Groovy Tunes: Katie Morosky Sings!

Each week I feature 10 groovy tunes that reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart during the last 50+ years. You can vote for your three favorites, and the five with the most votes move on to the following week when five new songs will be added to the list.

Last week Petula Clark's "Downtown" and the Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You" tied for the top spot, each receiving 34 votes out of the 192 cast. Simon & Garfunkel and Diana Ross also tied for fifth place, allowing them both to remain on the list. And this week they will all be challenged by Blondie, Culture Club and Barbra Streisand with the Academy Award-winning song from her 1973 film, The Way We Were.

1) "Downtown"/Petula Clark (Last Week #1, Week 3) - #2 the week of February 6, 1965

1) "(They Long to Be) Close to You"/Carpenters (LW #4, W28) - 17 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1970

3) "You're So Vain"/Carly Simon (LW #3, W5) - #2 the week of February 3, 1973

4) "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves"/Cher (LW #5, W13) - 16 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1971-72

5) "The Sounds of Silence"/Simon & Garfunkel (LW #2, W6) - #20 the week of February 5, 1966

5) "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)"/Diana Ross (Week 2) - #11 the week of January 31, 1976

7) "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"/The Righteous Brothers (DEBUT) - #1 the week of February 6, 1965

8) "The Way We Were"/Barbra Streisand (DEBUT) - #1 the week of February 2, 1974

9) "The Tide Is High"/Blondie (DEBUT) - #1 the week of January 31, 1981

10) "Karma Chameleon"/Culture Club (DEBUT) - #1 the week of February 4, 1984

This week, I'm voting for Karen & Richard, Carly and Barbra (although Miss. Clark and Boy George were close 4th & 5th).

Tough, tough week! I went with Barbra, Carly and S&G but I love the Petula, Blondie, Cher, Boy George and Carpenters songs. So hard to pick so I went with the ones that seemed the most timeless.

Pet Clark gets it again from me. She's even singing it in New York at Feinsteines this week...47 years after her first chart appearance.

Some woman.

Great Blog, thanks
