Yesterday I saw Woody Allen's 40th film, Whatever Works, and I went in with low expectations after reading some lukewarm reviews of the movie, which the director wrote back in the early '70s for Zero Mostel. When the actor died in 1977, Allen shelved the script, but 30 years later he decided to revisit it. And I'm glad he did. The film doesn't rank up there with Annie Hall or Hannah and Her Sisters, but it's very funny with some delightful performances. My only complaint is that it seemed a bit rushed at the end, so obviously I liked it since I wanted it to last longer than its 92 minutes.
The cast is wonderful (Allen is always great at choosing his actors). Although Larry David is good as the lead character, I think Allen could've played the role himself quite successfully. Evan Rachel Wood, Patricia Clarkson and Ed Begley, Jr. couldn't be better as a young runaway and her parents, who all discover love in the Big Apple. It's a very romantic film--I even fell in love (and lust) while watching it. 26-year-old British actor, Henry Cavill, who plays a dreamboat named Randy James, is worth the price of admission just to listen to him talk and gaze upon his gorgeous face. He's best known for his role on Showtime's The Tudors, where he frequently appears in all his naked glory (see the clip below). If People magazine is looking for a Sexiest Man Alive for 2009, look no further, folks, Cavill is your guy. So I give Whatever Works a B+ for making me laugh out loud more than once--and for making me lust out loud here on my blog.

Although I usually like my hunks a little more ethnically diverse, Henry Cavill is simply drop-dead gorgeous.
XOXOXOXOXO
I saw the movie this weekend. While watching, I thought Woody should have played the lead too. And I agree, Cavill is so sexy. I love him in "The Tudors" and I didn't realize he was in the film. I fell in love with him every second he was on screen. Very very sexy.
David and Michael, I second both your emotions about Mr. Cavill. :)
