What a fun list! Although, I'd have to put "I'm Easy" down there with "You Light Up My Life" - or maybe it deserves to be on a list simply for its unadulterated cheeziness.

I can tell you're partial to the poppy gems of the decade versus the straight ahead rock - i.e. Cap & Tenniell over Led Zep. But that's what's so great about the 70s - musical grooviness in many different styles.

I really enjoyed the list. Great work!

Incredible!! How long did it take to compile this list Marc? I'm sad that there's not more ABBA there. And, what about Barry Manilow? I think "I Made It Through The Rain" would have ranked on my list. (Or is that the 80's?)

You have an incredible memory. Many of those songs I had to reach in and dust off to remember. Sigh...

Yes, I'm much more of a pop music kind of guy than a classic rock one, Gilligan. As for "I'm Easy", I love the film, "Nashville", which it reminds me of.

Lance, I would've included more ABBA, but there were just too many other great songs ("Dancing Queen" is my favorite). As for Barry, I liked some of his music back then, but not so much today. Unlike the Bee Gees--whom I rediscoverd my admiration for a few years ago--I've not had a similar epiphany about Mr. Manilow.

Hey, I lived through the 70s. I was in my 20s & living in NYC!
I would have addded:
Stony End- Laura Nyro (1971)
New York State Of Mind- Billy Joel (1976)
Alison- Elvis Costello (1977)
Roxanne- The Police (1978)
Psycho Killer- Talking Heads (1977)
